Root canal treatment is provided when a tooth’s interior becomes damaged by infection. This treatment can save a tooth from extraction.
Inside your teeth is soft living tissue known as the pulp. This extends down to the jawbone and is full of blood vessels and nerves. The pulp is protected by the hard outer enamel of the tooth, but serious issues can occur if it somehow becomes exposed. This may occur due to a deep cavity or an injury. During a root canal treatment, the pulp will be removed and replaced with a medicated filling.
Signs you may need a root canal treatment include:
Before we start a root canal treatment, we will provide you with local anesthesia to help with your comfort. We then will use dental tools to access the inside of the tooth from the top and clean out infected material and decay. Once the inside of the tooth is clean, an antimicrobial liquid is used to flush the root canals. We will then use a medicated filling to seal the structure and provide strength for the tooth. Once the procedure is complete, we will cover the tooth with a dental crown to protect the tooth. Once healed, the tooth will be able to be used normally.
Dental procedures and treating pain have come a long way. We use the latest techniques to make sure that you will experience little-to-no pain.
You may have some tenderness for a couple of days, but you can resume your normal diet right away. You may feel an odd bite as you get used to the new crown. Continue with your regular dental routine by brushing and flossing.
